A free National Weather Service Severe Weather Spotter Course for first responders and the general public will be 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activity Building.
The course will include severe weather hazards, including thunderstorms and tornadoes; general structure and movement of severe thunderstorms; identification of storm features; safety concerns; and how and what to report.
Donna Dubberke, a warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Davenport, is scheduled to present the program.
Once individuals complete the training, they are eligible, but not required to register with the National Weather Service as a weather spotter. The National Weather Service recommends all spotters complete this course at least once every other year.
No pre-registration is required. The course is recommended for individuals as young as 10 years of age and up.
For more information about the course, call 472-4146 or email ema@jeffersoncoiowa.com.
