RICHLAND ? The kickoff party for Richland Public Library?s summer reading program, ?On Your Mark, Get Set, READ,? is set from 3-4 p.m. Tuesday at the library.
The free kickoff partly is open to children going into kindergarten through fifth grade. Preschool children can attend with an adult caregiver. Attendees can register for ?Team Richland?s Fitness Club? and stay for the party.
Children going into kindergarten through fifth-grade can join the ?fitness club,? with activities set for 3-4 p.m. on Tuesdays during June and July in the library?s meeting room.
The program will feature stories, games, crafts, snacks, art projects and special visitors including animals from Blank Park Zoo, science from the Science Center of Iowa, fun from Keokuk County 4-H and weather wisdom from the folks at KCRG-TV9.
Fitness Club members can earn prizes by keeping track of their time reading; the more a member reads, the more prizes he or she earns.
The registration continues through June and July.
