Switzer celebrates 90th birthday at early party

Mary M. Switzer of Fairfield celebrated her 90th birthday early with a surprise party July 5 at Chautauqua Park.

Children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors and relatives celebrated with a luncheon for family, followed by cake and cupcakes served to visitors.

Mrs. Switzer?s children attending the party were: David of Brainerd, Minnesota; Maxine of Plano, Texas; Kenneth of Holton, Kansas; and Charlene of Noblesville, Indiana.

Friends and relatives, including most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attended from all across Iowa and from as far as Michigan, California and Montana.

Mrs. Switzer was driven to town to ?see the band performing on the square,? but when she arrived, grandchildren started ?popping up? everywhere and she realized she had been ?tricked.?

Mrs. Switzer also received cards from friends and relatives she has not seen in years.

Mrs. Switzer will actually celebrate her 90th birthday Oct. 29.
