Techel?s attorney steps down due to ill health

OTTUMWA (AP) ? A former Iowa jail guard accused of killing his pregnant wife is getting a new attorney for his third murder trial.

Court documents show defense attorney Steven Gardner has filed a motion to withdraw from Seth Techel?s case. Gardner cited his own health and the economic circumstances of the case.

The Des Moines Register reports Techel has requested representation from Jake Feuerhelm, a criminal defense attorney in Des Moines.

Techel is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2012 death of his wife, Lisa Techel. She was found shot in the couple?s Agency trailer in southeast Iowa.

Gardner defended Seth Techel in two trials this year that ended in mistrial. State prosecutors say they will bring him to trial a third time.
