The best part of going to church

The Wyman Community Club met Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at the Ainsworth Four Corners at 11:30 a.m. for lunch with only six present, due to illness and other commitments.
Those attending were Jane Kaczinski of Washington, Ruth Johnston of Ainsworth and Larry Love, Margaret Patterson, Frieda Finke and Billie Jo Rose of Crawfordsville.
The next meeting will be Feb. 4, 2019, at 11:30 a. m. at Ainsworth Four Corners.
The United Church Women met Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the United Church of Crawfordsville with 12 women and Pastor Jason present.
Cathy Williams shared a reading 'What's the Best Part About Going to Church?” for meditations.
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read in unison.
Minutes of the Dec. 11, 2018, meeting were read by secretary Billie Jo Rose and they were accepted, as amended. Pat Miller gave the treasurer's report and it will be filed for audit.
Correspondence: There were greetings from the Mission of the Good Shepherd and the Bidwell Riverside Center. Thank-you notes were read from several of the groups the ladies support in their mission projects.
Committee Reports: Local Activities: Stove issues are soon to be looked into. Dorcas: Wilma reported 19 meetings last year and 69 quilts were made. Four quilts were taken recently to the 4 C's in Iowa City. Cards, Flowers and Gifts: The usual had been sent, along with Christmas cards. Study & Devotions/Mission Outreach: The regular offering and Least Coin offering were taken and The Fellowship of the Least Coin was read together. The 2019 program books were handed out. Everyone is to note when they are down to participate. Pauline presented the Call to Prayer and Self-Denial Service which emphasized how the Methodist women work to build a thriving generation of children and youth worldwide. Several readers took part in the service and the special offering was taken for this.
Old Business: Work As Worship Retreat: Jason brought to the women's attention that this an all-day video retreat and will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at our church from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and asked that members of the U.C.W. serve refreshments and lunch. A motion was made, seconded and passed to do this. They must make reservations a week in advance, so the women know how many to prepare for.
New Business: Lexi Collier will speak following worship service on Sunday, Jan. 20, to women about her leadership mission.
Upcoming Events: U.P.W.: Beth Jensen, UP Moderator of East Iowa. will be attending our meeting on March 12 to share her visions with us.
Next regular meeting: There is no February meeting. March 12, 2019, at 2 p.m. will be the next meeting with meditations by Wilma McAllister and Hostess Donna Fletcher. World Day of Prayer will be acknowledged and the Birthday Offering will be taken.
Dorcas will meet: Jan. 14 and 28; Feb. 1 and 25 and March 11.
Work Committees: January: Deb Lowe and Pat Miller; February: Ann Lewis and Tammy Lowe; March: Cathy Williams and Donna Fletcher.
Following a motion to adjourn, the Closing Creed was read together. Deb thanked Cathy for hostessing and she closed the meeting with a quote from 'God's Little Post It Notes.” ' It is easier to preach 10 sermons than it is to live one.”
Looking ahead to February, the Lions Club will hold their annual Pancake and Sausage supper on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the WACO Elementary School in Crawfordsville.
