Top-ranked Danville routs Comet boys

DANVILLE ? Steven Soukup scored a game-high 27 points and the top-ranked (Class 1A) Danville boys earned their 17th straight win, a 77-39 victory over Cardinal Thursday at Danville.

Connor Hogberg added 17 points for the Bears and Michael Soukup scored 15 as Danville improved to 15-0 in the division.

Charlie Rachford and Cody Carter scored 11 points apiece to pace the Comets, who have lost two straight following a three-game winning streak. The Comets fall to 9-7 overall.

Cardinal?s Dakota Showman scored eight points and Kaleb Durflinger added four.

The Comets visit Harmony tonight.

Girls start slow in loss

DANVILLE ? The Cardinal girls fell behind 44-21 by halftime and dropped a 68-42 conference matchup to Danville Thursday.

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division loss was the second in a row for the Comets, who have a 6-11 record overall on the season.

Lindsay Moore and Jessie McElderry scored 12 points apiece to lead Cardinal. Delaney Ridgway scored nine points and Danae Moses had five points off one 3-pointer.

The Bears put four players in double figures scoring, and Kayla Speer led the way with a game-high 18 points.

The Comets have a good opportunity to claim their seventh win of the season tonight at Harmony.
