The trees are naked, not you, on this delightful stroll through the morning woods at Hayes Timber. The Washington County Conservation Board will be hosting a Naked Tree Hike on Saturday, February 11 at 9 a.m.
Participants will wander through the woods, observing at how different trees look without their leaves. They?ll discuss some identifying characteristics besides leaves, examining bark, buds, and other clues. They?ll also keep an eye out for any inhabitants of this old woodland and their signs. Without leaves limiting one?s sight, the forest understory opens up and gives us a far wider view.
Hayes Timber is conveniently located in Washington, just off Fifth Street, across from the minibus office and often gives the sense of a much larger and less urban woodland. Participants should meet in the parking lot east of the timber and next to the city prairie (Sesqui Park).
