United Church Women meet in Crawfordsville

The regular meeting of the United Church Women was held Tuesday, July 13 in the United Church of Crawfordsville Fellowship Hall with nine ladies present. Pauline Richardson gave the meditation on "Friendship" from Max Lacado's book, "God's Promises for You."
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and led everyone in the "Opening Creed."
The minutes of the May 11, 2021 meeting were read by Secretary Billie Jo Rose, and they were approved as read.
Pat Miller gave the treasurer's report and it will be filed for audit. She reported three youth were attending camp. The Blessing Boxes will be turned in at the November meeting.
Correspondence: A thank you note was passed from Duane and Ann Lewis for their anniversary gift and the Sands family for memorial and luncheon.
Local Activities: There was a report on the Alumni Gathering and it was well received, but if it happens next year, more kitchen help may be needed.
The UCW committee will be serving the Lions Supper on Monday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
The Fall Rummage Sale will be held Wednesday, Sept.1 through Saturday, Sept. 4. Set-up will be Monday, Aug. 30 and Tuesday, Aug. 31.
There will be no UCW meeting between now and the sale. There was a report on appliances having problems.
Dorcas: Donna reported the group had been meeting twice a month and has worked on and completed many quilts. Twelve have been delivered to hospice, some to individuals and eight children's quilts to the 4 C's in Iowa City.
Cards, Flowers, and Gifts: The usual have been sent along with an anniversary and gift card.
Study & Devotions/Mission Outreach: The regular offering and the Least Coin offering were taken and the prayer of the Least Coin was read together.
Old Business: Next scheduled evening meeting will be on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Discussion was held concerning scheduling more evenings in the coming year and it was decided to leave it at two for the present time, but this can be changed at any time. We will be assessing the treasury and Blessing Boxes should be brought to this meeting.
New Business: The Parish Council will meet with the committee and a date will be set.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned with the Closing Creed.

Ice Cream Social
The Spring Run Church will be having an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, Aug. 3. at their church at the corner of Co. Rd X17 & 90th Street. Serving is from 5-7 p.m.
They will be serving hot chicken sandwiches, beef burgers, potato salad, pies and cakes and homemade ice cream. A free-will offering will be taken with proceeds going to missions.
Birth
Dan and Linda Wiltfang welcomed a new granddaughter, Ava Catherine Wiltfang on July 6, 2021. She weighed in at 6 lbs. 3 oz. and was 17.3 inches long. Ava is the daughter of Jason and Pamela Wiltfang of North Liberty. She was welcomed home by big brothers, Bradley, age 5 and Jackson, age 2.
Maternal grandparents are Art and Jan Wong of Cedar Rapids. Both grandmothers have been very fortunate in helping to care for little Ava.
