United Church Women meet in Crawfordsville

Mrs. Aline Hesseltine welcomed her first great-great-grandchild, a daughter, born to Bailey and Alex Peterson of Mt. Pleasant on Monday, Sept. 13 at 12:47 a.m. Alice Aline Peterson arrived weighing 7 lbs. 6.5 oz. and was 20. inches long .
The United Church Women met Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the United Church of Crawfordsville Fellowship Hall with nine ladies and Pastor Jason present.
Cathy Williams gave the meditation using a quote from Andy Rooney, "Friendship Week."
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read in unison.
The secretary's minutes from the July 13, 2021, meeting were read by Billie Jo Rose and they were approved as read with one correction. That being, Ruth Erwin was hostess.
The treasurer's report was given by Pat Miller and will be filed for audit. She reported the amount received from the recent rummage was the highest amount ever. Members were reminded that Blessing Boxes should be turned in at the November meeting.
Committee Reports: Local Activities: It was reported the committee had served the Lions Supper on Monday, Sept. 13. The report from the Rummage Sale was outstanding. There was an update on ovens and it stated two new ovens had been ordered. A new ice maker had been installed in the north refrigerator in the kitchen.
Dorcas: Donna reported the group had been meeting and working on quilts. Impact Life will hold a Blood Drive on Oct. 11 here at the church.
Cards, Flowers and Gifts: The usual cards had been sent.
Study & Devotions/Mission Outreach: The Regular Offering and the Least Coin Offering were received and the Fellowship of the Least Coin was read together. The World Thank Offering was also taken and Margaret gave some history of the Thank Offering and told it began in 1888.
Old Business: Thoughts were offered as to how to get younger ladies or those not attending involved in UCW.
New Business: A slate of officers was presented for the new year and they were approved unanimously. Sign-up sheets for hostessing, meditations and work committees were passed around to be signed for the 2022 Program books.The Harvest Supper was discussed, but no decisions made.
Upcoming Events/News Items: Iowa Conference Annual Meeting Oct. 2 in Cherokee; District Day Apart Oct. 23 at Riverside Trinity United Methodist Church; UPW: Fall Gathering Saturday, Oct. 2 in Marion.
Next Regular Meeting: No October meeting, so next is Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Meditation: Margaret; Hostess: Clarissa
Dorcas: Oct. 11 and Oct. 25, and Nov. 8.
Work Committees: September: Pauline and Cathy; October: Pauline and Donna; November: Cathy and Rachel.
Following a motion to adjourn, Deb thanked Pauline for hosting and the Closing Creed was read together.
Deb closed with the following thoughts: "Each loving act says loud and clear, ‘I love you, I care. God cares’“ and also cited 1 John 4:7,8. "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God....for God is love."
