United Church Women plan through Easter

The United Church Women met Tuesday, March 13, 2019, 2 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall with 11 members and one guest, Beth Jensen, present. The meditation was given by Wilma McAllister from the book, 'At the Water's Edge.” The article emphasized that in all the ills of the world today, Christ is the one we can turn to. President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and introduced guest, Beth Jensen, U.P. Moderator of East IA. The Opening Creed was read together. Minutes of Jan. 8, 2019, were accepted as read. Pat Miller, treasurer, gave the treasurer's report and it will be filed for audit.
Correspondence: A thank you from Hays Pure Water and a message from the Children of the Good Shepherd in Belize was read, along with a picture one of the children had shared.
Local Activities: Donna reported a part had been ordered for the ovens and that the Memorial Committee had purchased three new highchairs for the church.
Dorcas: Wilma reported that the ladies had finished four quilts, two baby quilt tops and one regular the day before and six had been given to Hospice. Donna shared quilts and dresses she had made.
Cards, Flowers and Gifts: The usual had been sent.
Study & Devotions/Mission Outreach: Clarissa shared an article on immigration from the Horizon Magazine. The regular offering and the Least Coin offering were taken and the Fellowship of the Least Coin was read in unison. Ruth shared an article on the Birthday Offering, which was also taken. The article stated that this was started in 1922 with a place for mission work for women in school.
Old Business: Lexi Collier met after church on Sunday, Jan. 20, to tell of her leadership mission project. Clergy Day Apart has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 26. Volunteers are needed to help in the kitchen.
New Business: A donation was made in acknowledgment of World Day of Prayer; The Crawfordsville Alumni Banquet was mentioned and volunteers are needed to serve it or decide if it will be catered. 'Going Beyond” Simulcast at Bethel Church will be held Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Following a motion to adjourn the meeting, the Closing Creed was read in unison. Deb thanked Donna for hostessing and Wilma for devotions.
Deb closed with 'God Himself doesn't propose to judge a man until he is dead, so why should we?” Also, with this saying ' A good laugh is sunshine in a house.”
The Crawfordsville Fire Department will host a Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Fire Station from 6-9 a.m. A free-will offering will be taken. They also will be holding their annual Raffle Fundraiser for two grand prize drawings for half a hog. Tickets are $5 for one ticket or $20 for five. This will include standard processing (basic fresh cut) by Crawford Meat Plant in Wayland. Contact any Fire Department member for tickets or email crawfordsvillefire@gmail.com. or call 319.430.4160. Proceeds will go for new protective equipment. The drawing will be at the breakfast at 9 a.m. Need not be present to win. Hogs are donated by Eichelberger Farms. Easter Egg Hunt will follow the breakfast at the school at 9:30 a.m., sponsored by the Crawfordsville Community Club.
Heads ups on the United Church's annual Spring Rummage Sale to be held the last weekend in April 25, 26, and 27. Items need to be clean and in good working order. No TVs or computers.
