Larry and Sara Bartlett just returned home after visiting their son and his family, Dr. Andrew and Jennifer Bartlett and sons in Mahomet, Ill. They attended the local eighth-grade winter band and vocal concert for twin grandsons, Christopher and Clayton Bartlett. The highlight of the trip was attending the eighth-grade All-State Concert to hear Chris and Clay sing in this large ensemble on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington, Ill.
The Cottagers Potluck was held on Monday evening in the Campus Center. Hosts for this November meeting were Merrill and Ann Mason, Darwin and Dorothy Widmer and Connie Bauer. With a pre-Thanksgiving theme they decorated with fall flowers and gourds and sang songs of thanks accompanied by Mary Atwood on the piano.
A special movie showing took place in the Campbell Room as residents gathered to watch the 1955 dark British comedy called "The Ladykillers" starring Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers. It tells of five bungling crooks who rent rooms in a lady?s house in London to plan a heist, and nothing goes right. Hosts for the evening were Mary Case, Gwen Ying and Dick Colby who realized that they had seen this movie in 1955 and wanted to enjoy it again and share it with friends.
Residents in the Health Center enjoyed a Thanksgiving movie this week, A Journey to the New World. This is the story of a 12-year-old girl, Remember Patience Whipple, who arrives in America after 65 days on the Mayflower and greets her new world with enthusiasm. The story chronicles this young girl?s sometimes harsh world leading up to the first Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations collide this time of year. Up with Day Care children have been busy this week with the help of residents posting drawings of turkeys for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. A special Giving Tree is also displayed in the lobby of the Health Center with items of use to residents. Visitors are welcome to select a tag from the tree and purchase items to be distributed to residents at Christmas.
