Carl and Helen Dallmeyer are pleased to announce the arrival of great-granddaughter Lydia Fay Underwood on Feb. 11. Lydia?s parents are Brian and Liz Underwood of near Orlando, Florida, and her grandparents are Russ and Dae Underwood of Johnston. Lydia Fay and great-grandpa Carl share the same middle name.

Sharon Evans celebrated her Feb. 25 birthday beginning the Thursday night before with a family pizza party. Friday afternoon she shared cake with residents and staff and on Saturday she enjoyed another cake with more family members.
Marion Turnipseed was sorting through mementos recently and found Helen?s medals from the Iowa Senior Games held in Des Moines in June of 1991. That year Helen earned a silver medal for singles bowling and a bronze medal for doubles bowling. Helen proudly modeled her medals for a photo as she talked of her bowling days.
Raymond Nebel celebrated his birthday on Sunday when his wife Joyce brought cookies to share with everyone.
Audra Williams and Sue Kretzschmar traveled to Iowa City Sunday afternoon to see the hit musical Mamma Mia at Hancher Auditorium. They enjoyed the production and report that they laughed and sang all the way home.
Myron Shields traveled to St. Paul, Minnesota for a long weekend to visit his son John and family. Myron had the trip planned so that he was able to see his granddaughter play volleyball and also watch his twin grandsons play basketball. Myron was happy to report it did not snow as he made his trip north.
In keeping with the Reid Orris birthday tradition, Reid?s daughter, Linda Marie, baked cupcakes to share with the Monday morning coffee crew. Linda and her grandchildren delivered the cakes and shared in the birthday celebration before Linda treated Reid to a birthday lunch.
Cottage residents held their monthly potluck in the Main Dining Room Monday evening. Hosts for the evening were Carl and Martha Chalupa, Pat Dusenbery, Jeaniene Dusenbery and Joyce Huff.
A Mardi Gras dinner in the Main Dining Room fattened residents up prior to the beginning of Lent. Chef Cory and his staff prepared gumbo, fried okra, New Orleans red beans, chicken and sausage jambalaya and catfish po-boy sandwiches. Fat Tuesday is the last day of the Carnival season in the south that ends just as Lent begins.
Pastor Don of Hospice Compassus held an Ash Wednesday service in the Main Dining Room for residents of all denominations. The service included responsive readings, scriptures, hymns, prayer and the imposition of ashes.
The United Presbyterian Home Family and Staff wish to express sympathy to the families of Esther Hess, Mary Slemmons and Donald Nicholson.
