Residents enjoyed cupcakes for lunch Monday in honor of Bonnie Fritz and Betty Strum?s Halloween birthdays.
Residents provided their own entertainment as they dressed in costume for the Halloween dance on Monday. Laughter could be heard as each character presented a unique perspective on holiday fashion. Never before has such an eclectic group of characters gathered in one place. We saw biker dudes, train engineers, bag ladies and hillbillies. There were clowns, doctors, gypsies and hipsters. Even a slice of watermelon was seen walking around. Great food and music completed the party. Kids from day care joined the fun when they paraded the room in their Halloween costumes and eagerly accepted treats when offered. They later visited the Health Center where they styled their outfits for more treats.
United Presbyterian Church Circle 3 held a hymn sing in the Health Center Tuesday led by Jane Fehr and accompanied by Dorothy Koehler on the piano. Residents sang along to old familiar hymns.
There were a lot of excited and sleepy Cubs fans on campus Thursday morning after witnessing the Chicago Cubs win the Baseball World Series late Wednesday night. Jackie Bower watched the game. Jackie grew up in Chicago and says she was born and raised a Cubs fan. A picture of Wrigley Field, Home of the Cubs proudly hangs outside Lou Slight?s door as it has all season. Bill Dusenbery has been a Cubs fan since he was in high school and has fond memories of delivering fat cattle to Chicago and attending Cubs games while in that town. Bill says his friends are divided fans of the Cubs and Cardinal baseball teams and that it is time Cubs fans get to share the glory.

The Italian opera composer Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) was evidently inherently lazy. The story is told that he, in his bed, was composing an opera duet when a paper fell and slipped under the bed. Being too lazy to retrieve it, he took a new paper and composed a new duet. A visiting friend picked up the paper and gave it to Rossini. He didn?t want all that energy to be wasted, so he added an extra part on the paper, turning it into a trio for the same opera. Honest!
