Newcomers to the United Presbyterian Home gathered in the Main Dining Room for some cheesecake and chatter on Tuesday afternoon. This was an opportunity for new residents to meet staff, ask questions and get to know other new people while enjoying cheesecake. Edonna Gamon, Max See, Ying and Gwen Ying, Duretta Niemeyer, Raymond Swailes, Dave Brown, Dorothy Winchip and Betty Flynn were some of the guests attending. Everyone seemed to have the same message as they introduced themselves. They all report procrastinating about moving to the UPH, and now wish that they would have moved sooner. Edonna Gamon compares the United Presbyterian Home to a hotel resort. We welcome them all to our UPH family.
Wayne Brock brought in his latest painting. It is a brightly colored fall barn scene. Beautiful fall colors of red and golden yellows in the leaves left on the trees. Intricate details are visible in the two dogs drinking water from a pond and a cat at the front door of a farm house. Wayne surely has a steady hand.

Of the many hundreds of works, large and small, of Franz Schubert (1797-1828), only a few were published in his lifetime. He and his music were beloved, however, by his admirers, who would gather informally, numbering from a few to over one hundred, in private homes in and around Vienna for the famous Schubertiades (Schubert Evenings), where he and others would play his music. The Schubertiades continued even after the composer?s untimely death.
