Staff and residents of the United Presbyterian Home are finding new ways to participate in activities during this period of social distancing and self-isolation. While no group activities are taking place, there are activities for everyone who wishes to participate. Amy Kleese and Stefanie Haworth of the Wellness Center delivered workout programs and brain teasers to the doors of each resident along with individually wrapped cookies. Residents are accustomed to gathering in the Town Center each Tuesday afternoon for freshly baked cookies and coffee from the kitchen. There are some things that we prefer not to do without.
Spiritual Life Director, Andrew Zuehlke has his own You-Tube video out. Andrews hymn sings are a popular event several times each week involving both residents and children. Residents can now sing along with Andrew via the You-Tube link printed in the weekly newsletter to residents. Oh, the sounds we will hear!
Staff members Carol Enfield and Diana Rich have been working on programing iPad tablets for Health Center residents to use in communicating with family members. This is a new learning curve for many residents and possibly the next best thing to a family hug. Families are also visiting through the glass windows, sometimes while holding cell phones up to their ears and other times making hand gestures. Richard Henningfield's family has visited several times this way bringing a smile to Richard's face with each visit. The lost art of letter writing has made a comeback. More cards and letters are being delivered to residents as another form of communication. The anticipation of any delivery right now is welcomed and enjoyed.
