Approximately 18 residents gathered in front of the Town Centre TV screen to watch the Iowa vs Iowa State football game on Saturday. Hawkeye fans outnumbered Cyclone fans 15 to 3. It was a good thing that they had plenty of snacks and refreshments to tide them over through the lengthy two game delays due to lightening and inclement weather hovering over Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. The dedicated fans feasted on wings, dips, bars, cupcakes, deviled eggs and other typical tailgate fare while waiting for the game to begin and then begin again. The rain delays made for a long game but the fellowship was a winner.
Richard Henningfield's family joined him for a weekend birthday party celebrating 86 years. Jeff and Kim Henningfield of Columbus Junction, Iowa and Diane and Bill Grimm of Arnold, Missouri joined their father for the weekend.
Dick Schlatter shared doughnuts with friends, neighbors and family members in the Town Centre Wednesday morning. Dick's wife, Mary joined him in his birthday celebration along with his daughter, Dixie and niece Rhonda.
Peg Mason visited the United Presbyterian Home bringing with her a collection of recorded music which she graciously shared with residents in the Garrett Center Wednesday morning in singalong style. She played oldies songs and hymns to the delight of her audience which included her aunt, Pat Dusenbery.

Classics Et Cetera for September 19, 2019 included the overture to 'Zampa” by Ferdinand Hérold; 'The Champagnes,” 'The Rhine Wines,” 'White Rock” and 'Psyches” from 'The Bride Elect” by John Philip Sousa; 'The Jewel Song” from 'Faust” by Charles Gounod; 'Fast Track!, a fast polka by Eduard Strauss; 3rd Movement of Piano Concerto No. 1 by Felix Mendelssohn; 'Waltz of the Faun” played by the Osipov State Russian Folk Orchestra; 'Blaze Away,” a march by 'Abe” Holzmann.
After the death of his older brothers Johann, Jr. and Josef, Eduard Strauss (1835-1915) continued to lead the Strauss family orchestra until his retirement and its disbandment in 1901. Although he had penned a few dance works, he was primarily remembered and recognized as a dance music conductor rather than a composer. Then, in 1907, Eduard determined to burn the entire Strauss Orchestra archives (not the published works, but the arrangements of them for the family's orchestra) despite the dire protestations of the onlookers.
