The United Presbyterian Home Pavilion near the Cottrell walking path has become popular lately for residents to greet family and friends while keeping a social distance. Donna Proudfit entertained three of her high school classmates in the pavilion on a beautiful late July day. The group has not been able to meet regularly as they did pre-virus. Donna reports that she enjoyed the company of friends and lunch before the ladies returned home.
Donna Orris greeted her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter in the pavilion this week making it a four-generation gathering. Donna was delighted to spend time with her family.
Mary Oviatt shared readings from her recently published book, Wisdom in Action, to a small group of her Main Building neighbors Tuesday afternoon in the Moore Family Dining Room. Her book tells the story of the Medical Mission Sisters founded in 1925 by four women health care providers, one of whom was Mary's aunt, Sister Agnes Marie Ulbrich. It is a story that needed to be told and Mary's inspiration for the book. These four women made it their mission to serve God by providing health care to women at a time when women of certain cultures were denied medical care. The women also began a midwife training program in Santa Fe, New Mexico which lead to a declining death rate. Mary read excerpts from various chapters of her book before taking questions from the audience. The Medical Mission Sisters organization still exists today with over 500 nuns and 100 associates that take their medical mission globally.
Claudine Erwin and Betty Flynn attended the outdoor wedding ceremony and reception over the weekend when their combined granddaughter, Michelle Erwin married Dylan Wertz. Claudine and Betty report that Michelle was a beautiful bride and it was a lovely ceremony with perfect weather. On Monday the bride personally delivered fresh flowers from her wedding bouquets to share with residents of the United Presbyterian Home. Michelle says she previously worked at a nursing facility and knows first-hand the joy that flowers bring.
