Ted Stewart returned Monday from a week in New Jersey, where he lived for 33 years before he retired. He went to three performances of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, including an opera Ted had never seen, Rossini?s William Tell. It has not been performed at the Met for 75 years. He also had a wonderful time visiting friends in New Jersey.

Former Director of Nursing and United Presbyterian Home resident Mary Holmes enjoyed a special lunch in the Main Dining Room last week. Mary invited several of her former employees who now either live or work at the UP Home to join her for lunch. Sharing lunch with Mary and reminiscing of their time together were Carol Enfield, Connie Crossett, Esther Fickel, Charlane Tanner, Esther Bordwell, Bonnie Fritz and Gertie Loder. Mary worked at the UP Home from 1965 ? 1985 and was the first of three Director of Nurses at the UP Home.
The 17th annual Healthy Holiday Cooking Class took place Nov. 3 in the campus center. Residents tried a variety of healthy holiday recipes prepared by the Amy Kleese and Stefanie Tschantz of the Wellness and Fitness Center. This year?s menu included a holiday cheese ball wreath served with crackers, Italian wedding soup, squash soup, winter fruit salad with lemon poppy seed dressing and rosemary cheese spritz cookies.
Dorothy Miller celebrated her birthday in the Town Center Tuesday morning surrounded by friends and neighbors. Dorothy?s son Don, had a cake delivered for the celebration.
Still celebrating the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series were Bill Dusenbery and his son William during the Tuesday morning group breakfast. David Draheim presented Bill with a World Series Championship cap at coffee the next morning in recognition of his years of support for the club.
Jim Bower celebrated his birthday in the Town Center Wednesday morning where there were so many friends and neighbors attending that they ran over into the dining area. Jim bought donuts for the group to share.
A large crowd of residents and guests attended the campus breakfast on Thursday morning. This is a popular event held each month with a buffet of breakfast items both sweet and savory.
