The summer school kids are excited about the archery program they partake in two times each summer month. Under the direction of Cory Evans and Norman Thomas the kids are taught the technique of archery using appropriate sized equipment. They are able to practice at the archery range west of Washington where they have such targets as the round bull's-eye and a life-size alligator. Dalton Rich and Manny Rios report that they enjoy the sport very much and like being able to use a bow and arrow. Dalton says the best part is making a good shot and hitting the bull's-eye. Both boys acknowledge that the alligator is hard to shoot as it has a tough skin that arrows bounce off.

The composer, pianist and critic Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826), a nephew-by-marriage of Mozart, was one of the first composers of the German Romantic School, particularly with his operas which were an inspiration to Richard Wagner. He also wrote for the piano, influencing Chopin, Liszt and Mendelssohn, among others. A restless and charming man, he traveled all over Europe, playing concerts and writing works featuring the clarinet, French horn, bassoon, viola and more, most of which are still in today's repertoire. Born with a deformed hip, he limped his entire life. He died from complications of tuberculosis at age 39.
