Gertie Loder has received word that her grandson, Greg Hitt Jr., will begin a new job in Houston, Texas, at the Johnson Space Center this Friday, Jan. 22. Grandma is very proud. Greg is the son of Greg and Jamie Hitt of Amarillo, Texas.
Dorothy Widmer shared treats with the coffee crew in the Town Center on Monday morning in celebration of her birthday.
Maynard and Evelyn Goff celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this week surrounded by friends and neighbors in the Town Center. A large crowd turned out to wish them a happy anniversary and share coffee and doughnuts in recognition of the milestone event.
School-age children shared their day off from school with residents in the health center Monday. The older kids read to residents while younger children played ball. Christina Brinning assisted the adults in baking chocolate chip cookies. The cookie tasters report that they were some of the best cookies they ever sampled.
The January birthday party was held in the health center Wednesday afternoon. Marilyn Johnson delivered birthday cake compliments of her United Presbyterian Church Circle. Mildred Statler, Mary Holden and Jane Vetter celebrate birthdays this month.
Dave Brown invited everyone to the Main Dining Room on Wednesday afternoon to debut his DVD, ?A New Day Dawning,? an inspirational styling of the Word of God as seen through Dave. Eighteen original songs and five readings by Dave have been recorded from performances at his former United Presbyterian Church in Lenox. With the help of missionary friends, John and Rita Beran these recordings were compiled into a 55 minute DVD which Dave now shares with family and friends. Dave says that ?A New Day Dawning? is a compilation of Christian music from our God in Heaven that He has placed in my head and in my heart during the last 15 years.? Those attending the concert say Dave is a true missionary for the word of God. Many may live their life by Christian example, but a true missionary will also use his voice to spread the word.
Participants of Mind Games class were on a treasure hunt of sorts this week as they searched the Town Center for objects that resembled letters of the alphabet. It appears to be a quick and easy assignment but in reality it is much harder than it sounds. Try to find something that has the shape of a Q!
Dick Colby?s Classics Et Cetera for Jan. 21, included the Prelude and two vocal numbers from ?La Traviata? by Giuseppe Verdi; 1st Movement of Piano Trio in B-flat Major (?Archduke?) by Ludwig van Beethoven; Theme from Symphony No. 6 (?Pathetique?) by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, arranged for pipe organ by Virgil Fox; selections from ?Pineapple Poll,? music by Sir Arthur Sullivan, arranged by Sir Charles Mackerras; ?Transit of Venus,? a march by John Philip Sousa
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) first met the Archduke Rudolph (1788-1831) in 1803 when the teenager switched to Beethoven as his piano teacher. In spite of the huge difference in cultures, they grew to be friends, and a total of 14 works of the master were dedicated to the Archduke, including Beethoven?s final piano trio (piano, violin and cello). Beethoven, in spite of his deafness, was the pianist at the premiere of the ?Archduke Trio? in 1811, his final public appearance as an artist.
