Two circles of United Presbyterian Women met during February. Eleven members of Circle IV met on Feb. 10, at 9:15 a.m. in the Campbell Room of the U.P. Home. Vivian Griffith served as hostess and study leader. Betty Beenblossom led the business meeting. Esther Bordwell opened the meeting with Inspiration. Julia Gamon shared a letter from Corresponding Missionary Tom Johnson from Niger. Betty announced that the World Day of Prayer service would be at the Washington Mennonite Church at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4. Circle IV made plans to provide food for the Brownlee birthday party on Feb. 17 and the Brownlee Hymn Sing on March 1. Betty Beenblossom provided devotions for the meeting including a poem titled ?God?s Valentine Gift.? The next meeting will be on March 9. Esther Bordwell will be the hostess. Jeanette Miksch will be the study leader and Vivian Griffith will have devotions.
Circle III met Feb. 9 in the church lounge with six members present. Marilyn Johnson lit the Christ candle and led in prayer. Marilyn led the devotions and shared items from The Mission Year Book of Prayer, which is now available only online.
Marilyn told of a church in Arlington, Virginia, which will be sold so that a much-needed affordable housing development can take place. An Iranian Presbyterian Church in Berlin, supported for 20 years, is enduring extreme hardship. Some people are being severely beaten and sent to prison if caught attending.
Betty Colby gave the lesson. It focused on stormy and calm times in faith just as water can be calm or stormy. Members testified of the times they felt they were in stormy waters in their faith.
The circle had given a gift of a beauty shop appointment to a resident in the Health Center. Marilyn had taken care of the Hymn/Sing and the Brownlee birthday party.
The UPW Spring Workshop will be April 21. The Washington UP Church is sponsoring it. Next month?s special mission offering will go to Camp Wyoming. The meeting closed in prayer.
