The following circles had their first meetings of the year. They will be studying the teachings of Paul in Corinthians.
Circle III met on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the United Presbyterian Church lounge at 9:30 a.m. Eight members attended. Leader Jane Fehr opened the meeting with prayer. Jane led the lesson on ?The Promise and Problem of Paul.? Thelma Wagner presented devotions.

The following circles had their first meetings of the year. They will be studying the teachings of Paul in Corinthians.
Circle III met on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the United Presbyterian Church lounge at 9:30 a.m. Eight members attended. Leader Jane Fehr opened the meeting with prayer. Jane led the lesson on ?The Promise and Problem of Paul.? Thelma Wagner presented devotions.
Phyllis VanGerpen reported that the missionaries with whom she corresponds, the Callisons, are in the United States after leaving Dahuk, Iraq. They are speaking in the eastern part of the country.
Jane presented an overview of the year?s activities of the United Presbyterian Women. The meeting closed with prayer.
Eleven members of Circle IV met Sept. 10, at 9:15 a.m. in the Campbell Room at the United Presbyterian Home. It was a happy occasion to see familiar faces again after the summer break and to welcome some new to Circle IV.
The special offering in September was for the Washington County Enrichment Foundation. The group thanked Jane Cuddeback, Janice Twinam and Julia Gamon for leading the Brownlee Hymn/Sing on Sept. 2.
Oct. 4 is the Fall Gathering in Mt. Pleasant. Reservations need to be to Kay Hall.
The Fall Dessert will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, at l p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
Davida Nicholson read a letter from Tom Johnson, a missionary in Niger. Tom and his family will be staying in the city of Niambi where he will be teaching some Bible classes. Unable to return to their rural mission station, they are looking for housing in the city,
Dorothy Soucek gave devotions and was assisted by Janice who read information of the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia University campus ministry. Their random acts of kindness included giving out 400 carnations with the message ?God loves you.? She also spoke of the activities of the Presbytery of North Puget Sound.
Janice gave the lesson, asking how do we reconcile Paul to modern times and can Paul help us today with how to lead a Christian life. The Christ candle was lit during the opening prayer and extinguished during the unison prayer at the close of the meeting.
Six members of Circle V met at the home of Betty Colby on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. Leader Jean Wells began the meeting by reading from Philemon 2-4 and offering prayer.
Mary McCall presented devotions. She read a fall poem concerning prairies and followed with prayer.
Circle V is responsible for the Brownlee Hymn/Sing on Oct. 7, at 2:30 p.m. Presbytery will meet at the UP Church on Oct. 7. Several members will furnish cake for the luncheon meal.
Betty offered prayer as she began an introduction to the year?s study. Paul?s first and second letters to the Corinthians were written at the time of the Roman Empire. The question is how are they reconciled with modern times. She closed with prayer.
Betty served interesting and delicious refreshments.
