Two circles of United Presbyterian Women met during March. Circle IV met on March 9 at 9:15 a.m. in the Campbell Room of the U.P. Home. Esther Bordwell served as hostess. Circle Leader Betty Beenblossom conducted the business meeting. Julia Gamon shared a letter from Corresponding Missionary Tom Johnson. The special offering taken will benefit Camp Wyoming. In April the circle will collect paper goods for Lending Hands. Upcoming events include Sewing Day on March 21, the PW Workshop on April 21 and the Spring Salad Luncheon on May 4. Jeanette Miksch led the study on Waters of Justice and Righteousness. The next meeting will be held on April 13.
Circle III met on March 8 in the U.P. Church lounge with five in attendance. Marilyn Johnston lit the Christ candle and led the beginning prayer.
June Asper gave the lesson based on Amos 5:21-24. The lesson focused on shallow worship and sacrifice without relationships to the needs of community and the world. The Christian walk is a strong relationship with God but also must include a relationship with others, near and far. Because water is the theme of this year's study, the group discussed how the lack of clean water is being addressed globally, nationally and locally. People shared suggestions for conserving water.
Eleanor Waring led devotions from Church Women United. It was about the large influx of refugees coming into Lebanon. The millionth Syrian refugee has been registered. One out of 10 children has been subjected to violence, robbery and trafficking. Living conditions have left children scarred for life.
Circle III is responsible for the Brownlee Birthday Party in March and the Hymn/Sing on April 5. The meeting ended with a closing prayer and extinguishing the Christ candle.
