United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties kicking off campaign

United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties will kick off its 2019-20 'Change Doesn't Happen Alone” campaign today, Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. in the Park Lodge at Terry Trueblood.

Twenty-nine non-profit partner agencies, as well as United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties' initiatives and programs, will be highlighted from 4-5 p.m., with an interactive fair including games, activities and information sharing for the whole family.

At 5 p.m., there will be a program featuring Dr. Cecilia Norris, of Iowa City Free Medical & Dental Clinic, Mitch Gross, city of Coralville council member/mayor pro tem /assistant principal at Northwest Junior High, and the 2019-20 campaign co-chairs, Bob and Sue Dvorsky with information on how United Way can connect people to the causes they care about the most.

The 2019 campaign marks the start of United Way's 100th annual community fundraising effort and gives the organization an opportunity to unite local donors, business and community leaders, volunteers, and nonprofit leadership.

'What can be more important than investing in our communities?” asked Sue Dvorsky.

United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties partners will local agencies to provides food, shelter, healthcare, crisis services and offers its own community focused initiatives. United Way's annual campaign is a vital part of the organization's work with last year's drive investing over $2.1 million in local efforts provided by United Way partner agencies and United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties' initiatives such as: United Way 2-1-1 app, camp scholarships, Leadership Directory and many more.

United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties is the volunteer center for the community and, as of July 1, the local coordinator of the 55+ RSVP initiative. The 55+ RSVP initiative provides an opportunity to harness the experience and dedication of an entire generation by connecting them to impactful volunteer opportunities.

'We are excited to support volunteers who are 55 or better to utilize their knowledge, skills and experience while addressing the needs of organizations and services,” said Patti Fields, United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties' vice president of Community Impact & Engagement.
