Kerr Hall at Washington’s United Presbyterian Home ended the year with Joan Rich hosting a cookie exchange for ladies of second floor Kerr Hall on Dec. 29. Those attending were Elna Tompkins, Carla Carter, Nadene Brown, Linda Boston, Donna Proudfit, Sarah Robinson, Carol Thornton and new resident to Kerr, Joyce Huff. All brought a sweet treat to enjoy and enough to take home.
On Jan. 3, we started our new year off with our 6-week Cardio Challenge and an introduction to some new classes in our Wellness Center including a Stretch and Tone Class, Relax and Flow, and Aqua Class.
A Newcomer’s Tea was held on Monday, Jan. 10 in the Moore Dining Room for residents that have moved to the United Presbyterian Home Campus since 2020. The Tea was very well attended. The Tea began with introductions and a history of the UP Home provided by Erin Drahota. Department heads introduced themselves and gave an overview of what they do on campus and how they can provide assistance to residents. Those present enjoyed refreshments of coffee, tea, lemonade, thumbprint cookies and lemon crinkle cookies.
We wished one of our Hair Dressers, for over 40 years, Betty Thompson, a happy retirement with bitter sweet emotion. An open house took place in the Town Center where residents were able to bid their farewells. We welcomed Carol Horning to take over Hair Dressing needs, joining Cindy Simmering.
In Brownlee and Garrett, the year was ended with a New Year’s Eve Party including favors, horns hats and leis. There were also snacks involved. It was quite the party that was enjoyed by all. Residents are keeping involved spiritually with Hymn sings, Bible Study and Communion being offered. They also are keeping physically active with Jolly Jump Up class and other exercise classes taking place. Watching the snow storm past brough out stories of winters years ago.
We would like to extend our sympathies to the family of Tracy Althenhofen. Not only was he a 20-year employee, we also had the opportunity for him to share his last days with us.
Enjoy your week everyone!
