Former United Presbyterian Home Executive Chef Cory Evans visited the UP Home campus in Washington on Wednesday, June 23 for a wine tasting event featuring five wines from Wooden Wheel Vineyards in Keota.
Residents were provided a small flight or tasting of each of the five wines along with water and oyster crackers to cleanse their pallets. Another dish of fruit, cheese and crackers was also enjoyed by everyone in attendance. Cory discussed the different characteristics of each wine, the different grapes that are grown at Wooden Wheel Vineyards and a shared information on the process of making the wine.
He also shared tips for pairing wines with certain foods to enhance the flavors of each wine. Cory also introduced a small history of Wooden Wheel Vineyards and the significance of several wine names. We hope to have Cory back in the late fall or early winter.
Independence Day picnic
UP Home Campus celebrated the July 4 holiday with a picnic meal, a pie and cake contest, a pie and cake auction and a performance from the Acoustic Friends. We would like to thank all of our Pie and Cake contestants, Judy Venzke, Jan McDaniel, Jean Frazer, Pat Goff, Joyce Letts, Carol Ray and Marjorie Lins. All the entries were excellent and very tasty.
We also would like to thank the winning bidders of the pie action, Ed Lins, Randy Fehr, Nadene Brown, Judy Venzke, Bill Stewart, John McDaniels, Donna Proudfit, Cathy Kleese and Dick Hendrickson. It was a fun day of events.
Brownlee has enjoyed flower painting, making tie-dye t-shirts, an Ice Cream Social and enjoying the 4th of July celebrations. Bible Study and Hymn Sing with Andrew continues to be an event enjoyed by all.
