Spring has sprung, and everyone at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington has been enjoying the plants out on the Kerr Hall patios, which look amazing. Also, spring brings cleaning and refreshing and this includes the second floor hallway in Kerr Hall which is getting a face lift with new texture and paint. The Michael Moore Family Dining Room will be seeing several upgrades and updates as well. Physical updates will include new curtains, chairs and dinnerware. A new menu will also be introduced.
We started Nursing Home Week off with a Mother’s Day celebration with MOMosas and music that was provided by our own Andrew Zuehlke. All the ladies looked wonderful with their corsages provided by Wolf Floral. The dining room was decorated with pastel colors and had floral placemats to go with the theme. Tuesday was Banana splits with all the toppings for ice cream sundaes. Wednesday was grilling day. The Maintenance Department grilled up pork burgers and hot dogs for everyone. Friday, Bingo was enjoyed in the afternoon, along with wheelchair/gator rides and a scavenger hunt. Everyone had a blast trying to find everything on the Scavenger Hunt list.
UP Home residents enjoyed a tour of the Washington City Offices, Washington Police Department, City Council Chambers and the new Washington Fire Department on Monday. The tour was guided by City Administrator Brent Hinson, who provided information about the expansion project and each department.
The fire trucks were a big hit and the residents were impressed with the cleanliness of the trucks. Thanks to the city for hosting two groups of residents so that they could see the new facilities. Some residents even took advantage of a free ride there, on the UP Home's new bus, the Holden Express.
We would also like to congratulate Phyllis McConnell on receiving a plaque, presented by Andrew Zuehlke, for her years in philanthropy.
