United Presbyterian Home in Washington's Kerr Hall residents met in the dining room Tuesday, Feb. 9, for their monthly luncheon and to celebrate the upcoming Valentine holiday with a sweetheart theme. Table centerpieces were made by day care children using paper tubes, ribbon and pipe cleaners with a Valentine theme. Carla Carter and Mary Meeker served as hosts for the event. Mary welcomed everyone with a mealtime grace that had been said many times at her family meals.
Residents gathered in the Moore Family Dining Room to decorate heart shaped cookies before Valentine's Day. They were the largest Valentine cookies one has ever seen. The kitchen staff baked the cookies and provided the frosting along with toppings to the creative residents who participated. The best part was that they all shared or attempted to share their Valentine's with others. Jean Frazer, Bert Lampkin, Mary Meeker, Charlane Tanner, and Sarah Weaver participated.
Health Center residents made their own Valentine fun while gathering to celebrate the sweet holiday. They nibbled on cheese, crackers and frosted sugar cookies while reminiscing on how they celebrated Valentine's Day as children, then as students and how it changed as they grew older. They played some Valentine trivia, had fun batting balloons around and enjoyed being able to get out and visit with their neighbors.
Residents were grateful to partake in a special Valentine meal Sunday in the Moore Family Dining Room. Diners dressed in shades of pink and red as they gathered for lunch which included desserts of chocolates and pink cream filled cannolis made by our very own baker, Michelle Glatch. Conversation centered on photos of residents and their spouses that decorated the dining room. Wedding pictures, engagement photos and special pictures of loving couples were previously submitted to share, many from years ago. One wedding photo of former residents, Sikke and Beulah Temple, was taken in front of the UPH Parlor fireplace on their March 24, 1945 wedding day when the home was owned by Beulah's parents, Cloyce and Mary Stewart.
