UP Home residents enjoy fall colors
Oct. 12, 2022 3:11 pm
We are enjoying all the seasonal colors on Campus. We have had lots of good weather to enjoy a stroll around Campus to take in the beautiful fall weather and scenery.
There have be lots of Birthday celebrations on Campus this past month. September Birthdays included Jack Genkinger, Connie Eberline, Rev. Kitch Shatzer, Betty Beenblossom, Lois Swank, Bob Crane, Ron Newlon, Nancy Blain, Merrill Mason, Jim Redlinger, Dale Venzke, Betty Gipple, Jana Nieman, Don Ruplinger, Jim Bennett, Mary Case and Sara Bartlett. Congratulations on all on another trip around the sun. We also enjoyed having author and speaker, Linda McCann, on campus speaking to us about the Civilian Conservation Corps.
After two years of pandemic-based absence, 32 Cottagers met on Monday in the Moore Dining Room to discuss plans for either renewing the pot lucks or making changes. There was an avalanche of support for going back to monthly potlucks in the Campus Center which will begin in October. Eleven “newcomers” were welcomed - some of whom have lived here for 2 years, others only 3 weeks. Carol Ray, lame duck president was asked to continue and Mary Atwood was elected vice-president. Mary Atwood, Jean Frazer, Randy and Jane Fehr and Bonnie Bender will host the October pot luck. Dick Colby reminded us of the long history of the event which began in the 1970s. The dining room staff provided a delicious soup and sandwich meal and served us all very efficiently. Many thanks to Dee, John and staff for all the hard work - the room looked wonderful. It was a joy to be together again and Cottagers are looking forward to October
In the afternoon on Monday, October 10th new residents were officially welcomed on campus with a small tea complete with tea, lemonade, coffee and thumbprint cookies. Each department on campus was represented and shared about their services. Each new resident also spoke sharing some personal history and what excites them about being part of the UP Home family. We would like to welcome them all to the UP Home Campus!
Plans are underway for a UP Home talent show in November. We have many residents preparing to show off their talents. We are all looking forward to the event. Thank you to Lila DePenning, Karen Wilson, Andrew Zuehlke and Amy Kleese for orchestrating this event.
Andrew Zuehlke is also working on getting the UP Homes’ annual Christmas program organized. This will be taking place in just a few short months. Time is rolling quickly.
Happenings in Brownlee and Garrett include pumpkin bread making. The enjoyment of making it and smelling it as it was baking brought back many memories for everyone but the best part was eating the bread. Several went on a bus trip through town looking at some of the Halloween decorations which included a stop by the Korner Kreamery for ice cream. Wheel chair rides were taken to enjoy the weather and scenery around campus. A seasonal movie along with popcorn was enjoyed. Hymn sing continues to be enjoyed a couple of times throughout the week as well as exercise class. Family Feud, Bingo and an ice cream social filled out the week. It was a very fun week for all.
We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Cynthia Carey.
Enjoy your week everyone!
