The first part of September allowed us to enjoy an evening with the Copper Mule and Aces & Eight Band at the United Presbyterian Home Pavilion in Washington. Copper Mule provide a variety of drinks and Aces & Eight played a great selection of music. Over 50 people enjoyed this event. It was a great evening enjoyed by all who attended.
We would like to congratulate our BINGO winners from last week: Bonnie Richardson and Mary Meeker.
We would like to say Happy Birthday to our September birthday residents: Jack Genkinger, Connie Eberline, Rev. Kitch Shatzer, Betty Beenblossom, Lois Swank, Bob Crane, Jeanie Sampson, Nancy Blain, Merrill Mason, Jim Redlinger, Dale Venzke, Betty Gipple, Jana Nieman, Don Ruplinger, Jim Bennett, Mary Case and Sara Bartlett.
Our UP Home September Book Club will feature Missing Mothers, a memoir by Martha B. Bordwell, daughter-in-law of Esther Bordwell.
Our Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke continues to provide a Live Hymn Sing Broadcast that can be enjoyed through Facebook. If you haven’t viewed this yet, please take the opportunity to do so on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. This is when the live broadcast takes place, but you can see past broadcasts as well. Andrew has also put together a devotional book entitled “Inspiring Stories of Faith” which tells the story of 96 individuals and their faith that he has made available to our UP Home residents.
We want to give a big shout out to Media Fulton’s great nephew, Jack Campbell. Jack is a linebacker, No. 31, on the Iowa Hawkeye football team, and had a great game against Iowa State. Jack had a team-high eight tackles (six solo stops), including a half-sack and half-tackle for loss, and he had a scoop and scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery in the third quarter. He will be a fun young man to watch as the season moves on!
In Brownlee and Garrett, everyone has been enjoying the weather and taking opportunities to be outside and doing some reminiscing. A Scavenger Hunt took place with everyone finding items on their list. Scarecrow craft was a fun event with residents hanging the finished product up in their rooms for some fall decoration.
Ice cream sundaes, movies and popcorn continued to be enjoyed. We also do exercise to music, hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s hits that keep us moving. To end the week, we always enjoy Friday BINGO and Hymn Sing.
