The wonderful weather has been being enjoyed on campus. Residents have enjoyed getting out and soaking up the last bit of warm weather and sunshine.
We had our annual Trick or Treat parade of our UP with Kids Day Care in the Town Center and Moore Dining Room. It was quite an event that was enjoyed by young and young at heart. Halloween evening on Campus enjoyed visits by Trick or Treaters.
We were able to enjoy a Senior Recital by our own Jeremiah Carter. Jeremiah is a Music Education Major at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt Pleasant, Iowa. Jeremiah works in our Dietary Department.
Cottager Kitch Shatzer has been assisting fellow residents with Medicare and Prescription Drug policies during open enrollment. Also, Kitch and Paula Brinning conducted a Medicare Informational Meeting to assist residents with the open enrollment process.
The UP Home hosted a “killer” 1920s murder mystery dinner party. Dastardly deeds took place at the Full House Theatre where guests had to work out whodunnit! Suspects included: Daff O’dyll-the local florist, Phil Lee-a jockey, Juan Iron-a golfer, Steph O’Scope-doctor, Taylor Stummi-Men’s Outfitter, Penny Pincher-accountant, Dusty Silver-cleaner, Sue Zennywon-lawyer, Ed Lyne-journalist, Victoria Sponge-baker, Annette Kord-tennis player, Jim Nast-circus performer and Cy Wren-Police officer. Even the Front House Manager-Alex Cited played by Erin Drahota, CEO was on the suspect list. Residents in attendance were given three rounds of clues about all characters and how the crime was committed. Guests were served: Guilty Party Dip, Ghastly Grape Salad, Murderous Meatballs or Killer Kabobs, Mysterious Mashed Potatoes, Butchered Baked Beans or Grim Green Beans followed with a Dessert: Death by Chocolate Cake. Our murderer was none other than Pat Goff who was discovered by Bonnie Richardson. It was a fun afternoon with a great meal, super costumes and lots of laughter.
Carol Ray enjoyed a visit with her nephew and his wife of Philadelphia, PA. The tree of them painted pumpkins for the annual library display, enjoyed seeing the new mural, shopped for shoes at brown’s (a family tradition) and dined at Café Dodici’, another tradition. The highlight of the visit was going to the new Stanley Art Museum in Iowa City which is absolutely wonderful and, they thought, unique in it’s displays. A variety of art work is displayed together in the galleries which creates a depth and richness that is unique. Carol was delighted to discover two works by a former student on display. Max and Kaytee, like so many of their generation, had to work while visiting, disappearing in the afternoons to use phones and lap tops for their jobs, but that was what made it possible for them to visit. They all three recommend the new baker outlet in town.
Happenings in Brownlee and Garrett has included social time, reminiscing about fall time of the year with special treats, coffee and hot chocolate. Pumpkin painting took place and card playing groups are happening. A special treat is having the children from UP with Kids Day Care coming to the Health Center and enjoying music with Andrew and singing along. We also got to enjoy the Halloween Parade by the day care kids.
Congratulations to the Birthday celebrators in the month of October on campus which include, Robert Lynde, Virginia Holmes, Brad Goff, Al Kinzler, Mary Meeker, Eileen Moeller, Charlane Tanner, Rollin Davison, Donna Knott and Betty Strum.
We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of James Lloyd, Mary Brinning and Jim Rich.
Enjoy your week everyone!
