We had the Chimney Sweep in the Parlor cleaning out our chimney. We definitely are not ready to use this yet as we are enjoying the great weather the month of August has given us. Football weather is in the air.
The UP Home hosted the Saturday Kitchen on Saturday, Aug. 20. Employees, employee’s family and residents, which included Jana Nieman and Mary Sue Northup, volunteered their time to help feed the hungry on that day. It was a great team effort supported by our kitchen staff that ordered, prepped and turned out a great meal along with several employees that made and delivered tasty desserts. Those that volunteered worked well together between sharing duties of setting up, serving the food and cleaning up. There was also socializing and laughter along the way as the group served 120 total meals. This was an amazing opportunity for the UP Home to give back to the Washington community.
We are starting a 30 day walking challenge on Campus starting September 1st. We have quite a few residents ready to take this challenge on. The Wellness department also offers Partner Personal Training to our residents. Residents are taking advantage of this to become stronger and maintain their independence.
We have lots of residents getting ready for the season and signing up to get their flu shots.
A new group has started on Campus. It is the Crochet and Knitting Group. Lila DePenning offered her services to teach basic crochet stitches and had a very good turnout. The group will continue to meet on Tuesday evening but had to move to the large space of the Town Center to accommodate everyone.
Our UP Home art class will have their talents on display at the Washington Public Library 2nd floor art gallery for all of September.
In Brownlee and Garrett, State Fair week was celebrated. This included a State Fair trivia/reminiscing group. A lot of fun was had seeing rides that people can ride at the Fair. Most everyone said they probably would not ride the new rides. The group agreed that the Fair has changed a lot from when they went. The kitchen provided a special Fair themed lunch which included Corn dog on a stick, loaded burger fries with lettuce, pickle, onion, tomato, and cheese, baked beans, mac and cheese, fried pickles, island coleslaw, watermelon, fried oreos, and a chocolate cookie bar. Fair games with prizes took place. The event included popcorn and cotton candy. The craft of the day took place outside and included funnel fries. We even had Fair animals come to visit. The animals included a couple of goats, cat, dog, rabbits, and a couple of chickens. Snow Cones topped off the event. It was a fun filled week!
We would like to welcome Dale and Virginia Holmes along with Craig and Leslie Paul to the UP Home Campus.
We would like to send our condolences to the family of Laura Jeane Fry.
Enjoy your week everyone!
