Summer is officially here with town celebrations taking place, family get togethers, Farmers Market, Thursday Night Live with the Washington Municipal Band being enjoyed as well. Summer time fills up fast with activities and we have the Fourth of July Celebrations right around the corner.
Thank you to Hills Bank & Mike Zahs for treating a group of UP Home residents to a presentation on Grant Wood last month. Mike displayed his collection of Grant Wood paintings, lithographs, upholstery and more at the bank during the month of May. We were fortunate to spend some time with Mike & the collection learning about these Iowa treasures!
On the morning of June 1, some of the United Presbyterian Home's art class members kicked off summer celebrating En Plein Air (the act of painting outdoors). It was the perfect day for taking in a creative outdoor activity, treats and a little social time in a beautiful corner of the UP Home campus.
On June 14th, twenty-five Kerr Hall residents celebrated Flag Day at their monthly dinner. Rev Andrew started the meal leading the singing ‘America the Beautiful’ followed by a blessing. Lunch was an All American Meal with hamburgers, hot dogs, coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad. For dessert, of course, apple pie and ice cream were served. All diners received small flags and table decorations followed the Stars and Stripes theme. Donna Proudfit was hostess for the red, white, and blue lunch.
We would like to thank Jim Wilson for arranging a presentation by David Miller, known as ‘The Big Pumpkin Guy’, due to his winning of various State Fair -Big Pumpkin Contests. He presented information on his process and other pumpkin information.
A Father’s Day Meal was enjoyed in the Moore Dining Room on Sunday, June 19th, and a Men’s Ice Cream Social on Monday, June 20th. The Ice Cream Social was well attended and the event was greatly enjoyed by those who attended. We want to say a special Father’s Day acknowledgement to all those individuals filling those roles past and present.
We are looking forward to our Campus Breakfasts starting back up on the last Thursday of June. We also are preparing for our Annual 4th of July Celebration which will include the favorite of the Dessert Auction and a fabulous meal to follow.
In Brownlee and Garrett, they have been enjoying painting birdhouses , Bingo and Hymn Sing. When the weather isn’t hot, golf cart rides around campus have taken place, much to the delight of those riding. Of course, on those warm summer days ice cream from our ice cream machine is enjoyed. We also would like to acknowledge CNA Week and give a big shout out and ‘Thank You’ to our CNA’s who make everything possible.
We would like to send out our condolences to the family and friends of Mildred Housel and Phyllis McConnel.
We want to acknowledge some special Anniversaries that have taken place on Campus which includes Jim and Joan Rich Celebrating 72 years of marriage, Hank and Elna Tompkins Celebrating a 65th Wedding Anniversary, Dale and Judy Venzke celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary and Pat and Brad Goff celebrated 58 years of marriage. Congratulations to you all!
We also would like to acknowledge our June Birthdays which include Tod Crone, Fran Langenberg, Linda Peiffer, Jean Frazer, Kathy Knutson, Helen DeVault, Max Cousins, Donna Koehler, Diana Henry, Joyce Letts, Jerry King, Pat Bagley and Joy Bennett. Congratulations on another trip around the Sun!
