The Halloween/Fall season has definitely been enjoyed by the residents of the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, including the UP with Kids Day Care and staff. Decorations have been displayed throughout the Main Building and Kerr Hall with some excellent themes.
The UP with Kids were able to trick or treat around campus on Friday much to the delight of all who handed out treats. Staff and residents participated as well by wearing some great costumes.
With the change of season and weather, leaves are falling around campus and it is quite a task to keep up with all the landscape work. We would like to thank Jeana and Tonnie Crile for all their extra work around campus, not just for the fall season but throughout the year as well.
Spiritual Director Andrew Zuehlke is working on a Christmas program for our UP Campus. He still is looking for volunteers for the program. It will definitely be a great event with all the talent that our residents have.
Book Club met this past week, going over the book Birchbark House, a book for all ages based on her family history by prizewinning author, Louise Erdrich.
We would like to congratulate our art classes that just completed a meet-and-greet exhibit. Art classes have completed over 15 years and interest is growing with a lot of wonderful work being created.
Thank you to the artist for sharing at the exhibit, which included Betty Beenblossom, Larry Bartlett, Donna Proudfit, Carolyn Dixon, Jan McDaniel, Connie Bauer, Jana Nieman, Charlotte Magdefrau, Marj Linns, Lucy Landon, Carol Thorton, Gwen Ying, Marion Turnipseed, Nancy Albert, Ron Palmer, Nadine Brown and Pat Bagley.
In the Brownlee and Garrett Center, residents have been enjoying the season by making ghosts out of melted white chocolate and dipping Nutter Butter cookies in chocolate. The movies Ghostbusters and The Addams Family were also enjoyed.
Heather Janssen came in to show everyone her collection of miniature houses and furniture that she has been doing. A lot of questions were asked and everyone was amazed on how anyone could work with such small items. A new Men’s and Ladies’ group has begun with great enjoyment. A lot of great memories are being shared.
We would like to extend our sympathies to the families of Judy Driscoll and Stan Burkholder.
