Katrina Altenhofen, Executive Director of Hospice of Washington County, presented to a group of residents in the Moore Dining Room in the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Katrina reviewed Hospice services that they provide. It was very informational for the group and enlightening of the services available.
Our UP with Kids Daycare Center is completing a fall fundraiser with Freezer Meals from Best of Iowa in Kalona. So far, we have had great participation and it is wonderful to partner with a local business.
Our UP Home Art Classes and staff will be showcasing their work in the hallway starting the third week in October. UP Staff and Residents will enjoy a “Meet & Greet” on Oct. 22 to meet the creative individuals behind the amazing artwork.
Residents enjoyed Pumpkin Painting in the Washington Room for the Halloween Season. There were lots of creative design with Hawkeyes, turtles and Breast Cancer Awareness all being recognized as popular themes. We are blessed with some talented individuals and thank them for sharing the end results with us. It is looking especially like a festive fall with all the decorations going up around campus.
Garden work is done for the year. Once again Larry Bartlett took the lead in getting the garden area planted, maintained and harvested. He was aided by a variety of volunteers which made this year very enjoyable. The ‘Garden Crew’ is looking forward to a new planter and a great garden season in 2022.
Residents of Brownlee and Garrett have been enjoying the fall season with wheelchair rides, decorating pumpkins, Halloween Bingo and Halloween trivia, which was so much fun. Hocus Pocus was the movie of choice with popcorn topping off the afternoon.
Residents enjoyed a small service and communion with Pastor from the UP Church along with the weekly Bible Study and Hymn sing.
Have a great week everyone!
