KEOSAUQUA ? The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating a Van Buren County Sheriff?s Department officer-involved fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday morning near Cantril.
According to a press release from the Department of Public Safety, at about 11 a.m. Tuesday, Van Buren County Sheriff?s Office deputies were dispatched to numerous 911 reports of a male dressed in a military uniform and armed with a rifle walking westbound along Highway 2 east of Cantril. The man reportedly was making obscene gestures at passing motorists.
The press release continues: When deputies arrived at the man?s location, he was ordered to drop his firearm. The man allegedly pointed the firearm at the deputies, and due to his actions, he was fatally shot by one of the responding deputies.
