KEOSAUQUA ? The Van Buren Student Council and student body are raising more than $2,000 to pack meals for Kids Against Hunger.
The students have collected profits from 50/50 raffles at home basketball games and have placed collection buckets in local businesses. A class collection competition is planned as part of Spirit Week Feb. 11-15.
Students will pack the meals on Feb. 15 in the high school gym. The meals contain vitamin and mineral-fortified rice, soy and vegetables with a chicken flavor. Each meal costs only 25 cents and can be shipped to homeless shelters in Iowa, disaster regions in the U.S. and to hungry people worldwide. It is hoped enough money is raised for each class to assemble 2,160 meals.
