Veterans band playing Sunday
The Iowa Military Veterans Band will begin its concert season Sunday at the Iowa State Capitol steps in Des Moines.
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. with the dance/jazz band. The 85-member concert band will perform at 7:30 p.m.

The Iowa Military Veterans Band will begin its concert season Sunday at the Iowa State Capitol steps in Des Moines.
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. with the dance/jazz band. The 85-member concert band will perform at 7:30 p.m.
Members of the band from Fairfield are trumpeters Jeff Six and Roger McHone, saxophonist Roger Gillaspie and trombone player Ron Prill. All members of the band have served in the military.
Jim Goodwin, past commander of the 34th Army Band, Iowa Army National Guard, is band director.
A variety of patriotic selections and marches make up the program.
Future engagements include the Iowa State Fair, Iowa Municipal Band Festival in Boone, October Festival and the Iowa Veteran?s Home in Marshalltown, and a Star-Spangled Banner Salute at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
Concerts are free to the public.
