Vic Rail Scholarship Foundation announces award recipients

The Board of Directors of the Vic Rail Scholarship Foundation announced the winners of the Vic Rail Scholarship Awards for 2022. They were presented at the awards assembly May 4 at the Fairfield High School By Eric Johnson.
Rail was a mathematics teacher at Fairfield High School. Rail’s influence on his students was the prime reason for starting the scholarship foundation in his name in 1985. The presenter, Eric Johnson, is a past recipient of this award. He explained the awards effect on his life and career.
The award is given annually to Graduating Seniors who will or are studying in a Mathematics related field at the college of their choice.
Evan Haines is an award winner. Evan is the son of Heidi and Ronald Haines of Fairfield. Evan plans to attend The University of Iowa pursuing a career in Business analysis.
Hannah Bergren received an award. She is the daughter of Sheryl and Shannon Bergren of Fairfield. Hannah plans to attend The University of Iowa to study Accounting.
Conner Lyons is an award winner. Conner is the son of Leah and Robert Lyons of Fairfield. Conner plans to attend Indian Hills Community College and pursue a degree in Accounting.
Khai Klem received an award. He is the son of Shawn and Cory Klem of Fairfield. Khai plans to attend Iowa State University to pursue a career in Construction Engineering. The amount awarded to all these students totals $5000.00 this year.
This is the 36th year that these awards have been given at Fairfield High School, starting the year after Mr. Rail retired from teaching in 1985. A total of $104,250.00 has been awarded. The funds awarded come from the interest on investments. There are 35 active donors to the Foundation.
