DES MOINES ? Join the Iowa Department of Public Safety and its divisions and bureaus at the 2016 Iowa State Fair.
The Iowa State Fair opened today and continues through Aug. 21.
The Iowa DPS?s booths are housed in the Hall of Law and Flame, under the Grandstand.
This year, the Iowa DPS?s Division of Criminal Investigation will have a virtual tour of the DCI Criminalistics Laboratory, the only crime lab in the state. The DCI also will have a new walk-through crime scene that allows fairgoers to be an honorary DCI special agent for the day and work the crime scene to figure out who committed the crime.
The Iowa State Patrol has a coloring booth for kids, along with several handouts and safety tips. The ISP also has a brand new state patrol Charger on display.
The Division of Narcotics Enforcement will feature a new framed display with all of the current drug paraphernalia.
The State Fire Marshal Division has several handouts, a Plinko game, a Detector Dan cutout for kids and several burned items from house fires to show safety tips.
The Governor?s Traffic Safety Bureau has the Wheel of Knowledge for all fairgoers and prizes, along with several freebies.
The Professional Development Bureau will have all the information a visitor needs to know about careers within the Department of Public Safety. If interested in a future career in law enforcement or the civilian-side, stop by this booth.
The Interoperability Communications Bureau has scanners and radios that are found in all of the Iowa State Patrol cars. Giveaways for visitors are available at this booth.
The Department of Public Safety also will have displays and handouts on the newly formed Office to Combat Human Trafficking, which is part of the DPS.
The DPS?s Iowa State Patrol Troopers are responsible for patrolling the Iowa State Fairgrounds and encourage visitors to report any suspicious activity that they witness to the closest law enforcement.
