Vogel attending Girls State

Allison Vogel, daughter of Matt and Cori Vogel, of Washington, was chosen by Unit No. 229 Leon Beatty in Washington to attend the annual session of the Iowa American Legion Girls State. This will be held June 18 - 23 on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines.

She will be attending with others who have completed their junior year of high school. Allison will learn through a ?hands-on? experience about the political system in Iowa.

Throughout the week, the girls will campaign for office, create party platforms, hold city, county and state elections and run their own cities.

In addition to their political activities, the girls will hear several motivational speakers and several local and state government officials.

The communication of the week will end Friday evening with the inauguration of newly elected state officials. The inauguration program will be held on Friday night at Drake University.

Allison attends Washington High School and is involved in National Honor Society, golf, SADD, BPA, JOOI Club, Silver Cord program, Dance Marathon committee, YMCA swim team, football statistician and the HOBY Leadership Conference and Youth Salute.
