Washington County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Daniel L. Widmer, is reminding eligible electors who want to vote in the November 3, 2020 General Election in Washington County and who are not yet registered that they should register on or before the October 24 deadline for pre-registration.
Iowa law allows eligible persons to register to vote and to cast a ballot on election day if they are able to provide proof of both their identity and residency at their polling place; however, Widmer points out that with the convenience of being able to register and vote at the polls comes potential confusion and check-in backlog.
To avoid delays caused by filling out registration paperwork at the polling places, Widmer suggests that eligible voters make every attempt to register with the Auditor's Office prior to the close of pre-registration which is 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24. Worry-free postmark deadline is Monday, October 19.
Persons who are already registered to vote in Washington County do not need to re-register to participate in this election.
Voter registration forms can be obtained or online registrations can be filled out through our website at http://co.washington.ia.us, or voters may register directly at the Washington County Auditor's Office. Auditor's Office hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Anyone having questions should contact the Washington County Auditor's Office, 319-653-7717.
