WINFIELD ? The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team put the top team in the SEISC South Division on the ropes on Wednesday night, but the Falcons escaped Winfield with a 4-1 victory.
Madie Anderson and the W-MU defense held WB-ND scoreless in the top of the first inning. Molly Miller knocked in a run with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons tied the game with a run in the third, but the Wolves kept the game tied at 1-1 through six innings. WB-ND scored three runs in the top of the seventh, however, and the W-MU offense could never push through another run.
Anderson struck out 15 batters but took the loss on the night. W-MU had just four hits on the day, compared to 10 for WB-ND.
