W-MU volleyball falls to Wapello

WAPELLO ? The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team finished off its conference schedule on Tuesday night in Wapello. The Wolves battled from a tough loss in the first set to tie it at 1-1 in the second, but the Arrows closed out the final two sets and upended W-MU 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22).

WAPELLO ? The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team finished off its conference schedule on Tuesday night in Wapello. The Wolves battled from a tough loss in the first set to tie it at 1-1 in the second, but the Arrows closed out the final two sets and upended W-MU 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22).
Pearl Krieger-Coble had a big game hitting for the Wolves, tallying 14 kills in 39 attack attempts. Lexee Hartsock and Lauren Jamison each had five kills, Caitlin Jamison and Cassidy Lennie had four apiece, and Hannah Buffington and Sophie Kongable each had one.
C. Jamison led the team with 24 assists. Lennie led in digs, with 16. C. Jamison, Kara Wade and Kenzie Scott each had 12 digs, and L. Jamison and Kongable each had 11.
The Wolves went 81-90 serving in the game. Wade and Kongable were the most efficient servers, going 17-17 and 13-13 respectively. Kongable and C. Jamison each had three aces, and L. Jamison and Wade had two apiece.
The Wolves (17-15 overall, 6-3 in conference) will travel to Burlington to take on Notre Dame in the first round of the 1A Region 7 tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Nikes are 16-17 overall and finished 4-4 in the South Division. The two teams have yet to play this season.
A win in the first round, which starts at 7 p.m., will earn W-MU the right to face the WACO vs. English Valleys winner one week later.
