WACO and W-MU cross-country teams run at IMS Early Bird

KALONA ? The WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union cross-country teams opened their season on Tuesday evening at the Iowa Mennonite Early Bird in Kalona.
W-MU finished sixth in the girls? event, with 158 points, and seventh in the boys? events, with 165 points. WACO was ninth in the girls? standings, with a 247, and didn?t score as a team in the boys? race.

KALONA ? The WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union cross-country teams opened their season on Tuesday evening at the Iowa Mennonite Early Bird in Kalona.
W-MU finished sixth in the girls? event, with 158 points, and seventh in the boys? events, with 165 points. WACO was ninth in the girls? standings, with a 247, and didn?t score as a team in the boys? race.
Cecelia Hemsworth finished 16th overall for W-MU in the girls? race, in 23:59.96. Whitney Vantiger was 43rd, in 29:27.40. Johndree Harris placed 45th, in 28:17.73. Isabella Mertens was 47th, in 28:27.40. Fionna Sparrow was 55th, in 30:12.47, and Lauren Hagge was 62nd, in 33:27.22.
Kasey Sutton was the top girl for WACO. She placed 53rd, in 19:48.05. Michaela Shaffer placed 63rd, in 35:11.19. Mackenzie Shelman crossed in 64th, in 36:33.30. Emily Thomson was 65th, in 37:21.22, and Katie Malloy finished 66th, in 43:00.33.
Gavin Bencze finished 15th in the boys race for W-MU, In 19:39.37. Brock Fricke was 25th, in 20:35.20. Asa Gipple placed 42nd, in 22:10.08. Dalton Spencer placed 48th, in 22:34.92 and Bryant Holtcamp was 53rd, in 22:49.74.
Other runners for the W-MU boys were Nick Davis (62nd, 24:10.69) and Kane Harris (24:19.95).
For WACO, it was John Skriver who led the way on the boys? side. He placed 43rd, in 22:11.73. Joe Edeker was 66th, in 24:34.08. Tanner Conwell was 67th, in 24:37.22, and Roman Kiefer placed 73rd, in 26:25.22.
Both WACO and W-MU will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 4:30 p.m. WACO will be in Keota and W-MU will be at Van Buren.
