The Waco Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at Waco High School in Wayland. The dinner is free and open to the public.
It is that time of year again. When we look back and think how lucky we are over the last year of our life. Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite times since I was little. Doing crafts with Grandma Erwin like making hand turkeys and pinecone decorations. Going to Grandma Stacy's the day before to help cook, while my job was licking the beaters and spoons, mostly. Picking seed out of the cherries to make the pie or helping Grandpa crack walnuts.
Then on Thanksgiving, eating cookies, pie and turkey. But nothing topped Mom's red velvet cake. Right out of the refrigerator. For weeks before having the smell of harvest. Nothing better than riding the combine with Dad, smelling the fresh shelled corn and the diesel of the equipment. Riding the tractor (John Deere, of course) pulling loads into the grain dryer. I still love those sounds and smells today. Until it was ruined with the smell of hog poop.
We will have those Thanksgiving Dinner smells for you to enjoy Thanksgiving Day at the Waco High School. Everyone is invited to come join us from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is all free of charge. Bring your family and friends. Everything is going to be home-cooked: turkeys, ham, corn, beans, potatoes and more. And of course, desserts from some of the best homes around Wayland.
Everything is being made and served by Waco and Brighton church members, and a lot of community members. The best of the best. We will also have to-go meals for shut-ins of Waco and Brighton. For deliveries in Waco and Brighton area, call 319-217-2456 before Thanksgiving Day. For questions, call 641-461-0576.
God bless everyone and have a great Thanksgiving.
