The 2021 WACO C.R.O.P. (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) drive truly did respond to the needs of people in poverty by surpassing our goal of $32,000.00 by $3,093.68. Our cash amount of $21,986.00 and our commodities amount of $13,107.68 brought the total to $35,093.68.
The WACO Drive is one of two drives in the USA where captains and canvassers personally visit or call for donations rather than having CROP WALKS. For the past seven years, 25% of the proceeds are returned to the WACO Ministerial Association where the money is used for the WACO food pantries and other community needs and Bridges out of Poverty class. This class works with individuals that have experienced generational poverty and financial instability.
The WACO CROP Committee wishes to thank everyone who participated in this years drive including our captains, Gary Anderson, Marlys Fear, Larry Gugel, Jacob Leichty, Loran Leichty, Duane Lewis, Stan Meyer, Wes Rinner, Donna Roth and Michael Swartzendruber for their commitment and the many canvassers for their hard work. Thank you also to the many who donated cash and commodities.
Last year (2020), the committee was notified that the WACO CROP DRIVE had the third highest donation in the state.
