WACO FFA departed for the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The students started their trip with a tour in Indiana. Fair Oaks Farms gave students the opportunity to see how technology has impacted the dairy industry and provided a modern look into farming.
On Thursday, students attended two general sessions at the Lucas Oil Stadium where they listened to the keynote speaker, Tamika Catchings. Catchings' speech taught students to be bold and to never be scared to stand up for yourself. Leadership workshops and the career expo were also attended on this day.
The seven students also got to listen to National FFA officers, the FFA band, and attended the FFA Expo with hundreds of booths. Friday was spent exploring other agricultural businesses around Indianapolis. They toured RDM Shrimp, one of the first indoor shrimp farms in the United States to learn about aquaculture. After this was a tour at Hunter’s Honey Farm where students got to sample over 50 different types of honey from various flowers. These tours gave students experiences in other sectors of the agricultural industry and showed them the global importance of agriculture.
