WACO’s Preston Lasek performs in SIESTA Honor Orchestra

Preston Lasek, son of Jesse and Betsy Lasek played Double Bass in the SIESTA Honor Orchestra on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the Bettendorf High School. Over twenty schools participated. His mother, Betsy Lasek and grandmother, Carolyn Love enjoyed the performance.
Preston is a 6th grade student at WACO Elementary School.
CRAWFORDSVILLE LIONS CLUB
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday evening, March 11, 2024 at 7 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room with 14 members and 11 guests in attendance. President Wilson led the Pledge to the Flag and Club Administrator Nancy Love gave the invocation. Lion Nancy introduced guests, Paul Hain PCC and District 9SE LCIF Coordinator and his wife, Sylvia LIF Trustee from Lone Tree, District Governor Mike Renken from Lockridge. Ben and Pam Johnson, Larry and Donna Montross and Rod Kolkman, all of Winfield were also guests, as well as Lisa Jewell from Mt. Pleasant.
Following dinner prepared and served by Alice Hochstetler, the meeting reconvened.
Lions Pual then spoke about the importance of LCIF and the impact it has on individual communities. Some of the areas of outreach for the foundation are
diabetes awareness, hunger, the environment, youth and disaster relief. For example, LCIF provided grant funding following the derecho by helping people affected by offering vouchers at local grocery stores so that residents could replace food lost through power outages. It is important to note that every dollar that is donated to LCIF is used in community service events and is not used for administrative purposes. Iowa Lions Foundation Trustee Sylvia Hain spoke about the impact of dollars spent within the state---the entities that ILF supports include the Eyeglass Recycling Program, the Iowa Lions Hearing Aid Bank, Iowa Kidsight and the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.
It was mentioned that the Melvin Jones Award was given in the past to the late Silas Finke, Jr., Arvid Anderson and Ed Massey. Nancy Love has also received this prestigious award.
District Governor Mike Renken presented Monarch Chevrons Awards to Randy Finke, Gene Miller, Gene Lintz, David Jewell and Nancy Love. Nancy also received the Guiding Lions Recertification Certificate.
The Secretary's report was approved as read by Rose. Treasurer Finke gave his report.
The Slate of Officers for 2024-25 was read and will be voted on at the next meeting. They are: President-Scott Davis; 1st Vice President-Randy Finke; 2nd Vice President-2nd Vice-President-Steve Williams; 3rd Vice President- Billie Jo Rose; Secretary-Billie Jo Rose; Treasurer-Randy Finke; Tail Twiste- Randy Finke; Lion Tamer-Mike Massey. 1 Year Director: Gene Lintz and Joel Greene; 2Year Directors-Luetta Greene and Larry Love. Club Administrator- Nancy Love
New Business: Guest Larry Montross of the Winfield Club mentioned they have put together a wagon with basketball hoops that children can purchase chances on and shoot baskets and this is available for other clubs to use for their special events. A motion was made,seconded and approved to give a donation to the National Child's Safety Council. It was announced that the WACO Scholarship has been taken care of. President Wilson thanked everyone that helped at the recent Pancake Supper. It was reported a success and all the meat has been sold.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

FUND FOR FIRE VICTIMS
A fund has been set up at the Peoples Savings Bank in both Crawfordsville and Wayland to assist the family of Rob and Becky Kremer who suffered a major house fire on Monday morning, March 11, 2024.
