KEOSAUQUA ? On its home track, the Van Buren boys? track and field team won the Van Buren Invitational in convincing fashion Thursday evening.
With reported temperatures reaching as high as 90 degrees, the Warriors won a whopping seven events to take the Class A championship with a final tally of 153 points. New London was second with 105.
Elliott Remick got things started for Van Buren with a victory in the long jump followed up by a leg on the winning shuttle-hurdle and 4x200 relay teams. Remick, running the second leg of the hurdles, was joined by Kelby McClaran, Miles Gaston and Ryne Smith. Leighton Schnedler, Nic Giberson, Zach Boyd and Remick combined for the 4x200 win.
Senior Brad Goehring also shined for the Warriors anchoring two relay wins ? the 1600-medley and 4x800 ? and also posting an individual victory in the 1600-meter run. Schnedler, Giberson and Boyd joined Goehring on the medley team while Scott Lindley, Levi Sherrod and Ben Moews ? just moments finishing second in the 3200-meter run ? ran legs on the 4x800.
Moews also tallied runner-up honors in the open 800.
The 4x100 combination of Schnedler, Giberson, Boyd and Smith tacked on another victory for the Warriors.
Other highlights for the Warriors included second-place finishes from Smith in the high jump and 110-meter high hurdles, Ryan Kruse in the discus and the 4x400 team of Spencer Watson, Goehring, McClaran and Remick.
In all, the Warriors posted top-two finishes in 13 of 18 events.
